{January 28, 2009}   Dance4Life in Tamil Nadu

Hello there everybody!

Dance4Life has just received news from Verity Danbold – a dance4life Development Trainer currently working in Tamil Nadu!

Tamil Nadu is in rural India and despite monsoon rains the enthusiastic dancers at the KKG school there participated in the worldwide December 1 Dance4Life HIV/AIDS awareness day! The school provides 43 students (aged six to eighteen) with a sound education.

It is a residential school and the KKG gives its students a healthy, safe and nurturing environment to grow up in.
However, Tamil Nadu is officially recognized as having a high HIV/AIDS infection rate, accurate information is difficult – ‐if not impossible – to find. This is due to deep rooted denial of extra‐ or pre‐marital sex, which makes condom use and STD testing seen socially to be ‘unnecessary.’ People frequently die undiagnosed ‐ their deaths attributed only to the secondary infection caught as a result of HIV/AIDS. Many HIV/AIDS patients are sent to a TB treatment hospital, undeniably shortening their life span.

This again highlights just how important Dance4Life’s work can be;  sexual health education provided to the KKG students is vital. It’s easy to see why top DJ’s such as Tiesto, Judge Jules, Tim Westwood and Paul Van Dyk are all ambassadors!
The good news is following their weeks of health and sexual education the children were all well aware of HIV/AIDS. From the very youngest to the oldest, they all eagerly pledged to lead a safe and healthy life, suggesting everything from condom use to teeth brushing to a respectful and faithful marriage as ways to do this. After the announcement the winners proudly displayed their new Dance4Life pens ‐ a valuable commodity in India! In addition The following day the newspaper was filled with pictures of the children’s favorite stars also taking a stand against HIV/AIDS.

Dance4Life believes this is the most effective way to help beat HIV and AIDS. We hope you do too and will support Dance4Life for Life!

{January 27, 2009}   Get Involved!

Hey there everyone!

Dance4Life mentioned yesterday about what we do with peoples very generous donations. We are so grateful for any money that people can give, but don’t worry if you aren’t able to do this, there are still loads of ways for you help out and get involved with some amazing charity work.

Ways To Support and Become Involved With Dance4Life:

fundraising:

We promise every pennt goes directly to creating one million Agents of Change. This way we can all actively contribute to pushing back HIV and AIDS. An Agent of Change is a young person who is actively involved in Dance4Life and makes a positive active contribution on an individual, national or international level to pushing back HIV and AIDS.

make Dance4Life more visible: Dance4Life is the platform of young people pushing back HIV and AIDS – give Dance4Life visibility and you give them visibility. Why not wear your Dance4Life t-shirt out and about, and help spread the message.

raising awareness about HIV and AIDS: know the correct facts about HIV and how it is transmitted. Take responsibility for yourself and tell your friends, family and community about HIV.

To support Dance4Life, then we want it to be as easy as possible. Just register with us, and you will get access to lots of materials to help you: logos, poster, flyers, Dance4Life HIV fact sheet, banners, Dance4Life leaflet, stickers, sponsorship form, press release, clips and more. We’ll even put details of what you’re doing on this website!

If you want to find out more about great charity’s that do similar work to us, then you may want to read about World Aids Day and this may help you to understand just how important the work we do it.  Another great charity that helps out in areas of the world where HIV and AIDS is highly prevalent is The Red Cross. They also do a blog just like us, so why not check out what they are up to. Remember, an informed Agent of Change is exactly what we need to help beat AIDs and HIV.

{January 26, 2009}   Where does the money go?

Hello there everybody!

Dance4life hopes you had a great weekend and boogied away like nutters (we all did!)

On a more serious note, some of our fans have been asking lately if they donate any money to Dance4Life, where does it go, who will it help, how will it help, and so on.

So we thought we’d explain a little bit more about it…

All the money raised by Dance4Life UK goes to HIV/AIDS projects run by Students Partnership Worldwide (SPW). SPW is Dance4Life’s National Concept Owner in the UK.  They will spend it on projects aimed at young people, care, awareness, training and prevention in those areas of the world most affected by HIV/AIDS.

Some examples of where the money goes:
SPW volunteers’ activities are facilitated in the classroom, in the extracurricular school timetable and in the wider community. The volunteers deliver a phenomenal quantity and quality of HIV/AIDS/SRH (Sexual and Reproductive Health) Awareness Raising and Life Skills activities for young people across all the placement schools and communities. The volunteers are positive role models for their peers both in and out of school and stand as examples of people making healthy and informed lifestyle choices.

We all know how tight things can be in January, so don’t worry if you can’t afford to help out with a financial donation at the moment; by signing up as and Agent of Change (which is free) you can still do your bit to help fight HIV and AIDS.

So what are you waiting for!
